Back in 2010 IBM created a short video explaining their vision of the Internet of Things. From todays point of view, they where pretty spot on.

In the video IBM researchers explain how we’re now seeing an emergence of a global data field. Physical objects communicating with each other and generating enormous amounts of data – “Big Data” as the buzzword is called nowadays. Autonomic systems like different kinds of sensors or location data are starting to get connected so we can access it. In essence pretty soon there will be more smart devices on the internet than there are humans. It’s what they call the “nervous system of the planet” or a “system of systems”.

Through those interconnected networks society becomes more efficient, innovations are sparked, we gain new insights about information flows and form new social relations.

Where do you think this trend will lead us? Let me know in the comments!
