Home 9000 video doorbell

If you don’t want to wait for DoorBot and/or you are more of a do-it-yourself kind of person, Home 9000 by Instructables member macgeek might just be the thing for you. In his guide he explains all the steps necessary to build a system that will initiate a FaceTime call whenever someone rings your doorbell and lets you instantly talk to them.

The setup involves a bit of work to connect the press of the bell button to the computer and kick of a little program, but other than that the process is pretty straight forward: If someone rings the doorbell a FaceTime call is initiated so you can answer from wherever you are at the moment. Additionally, if you don’t answer, an image of the person in front of your door will be sent to you via email, as well as a 5 minute video is captured so you can review it later.
